Sydney

Name: Sydney
Nickname: Princess Sydney (the first princess in the house)
Breed: Mommy and Daddy only know that I'm a DSH (Domestic Short-Hair)
Age: 2 years old (Birthday: October 2011)
Rank in Household: I am most certainly the number one girl in the house
Favorite Activity: Greeting Daddy when he gets home from work.  I talk to him A LOT and make sure he knows just how excited I am to see him.
Favorite Thing: My Cat-Sitter DVD
Her Ideal Day: Having Daddy all to myself so I can talk to him and tell him to pet me.  Also sitting on my pillow in Mommy's lap while having my purr box turned all the way up.  And finally, doing all this while I can also watch my DVD...especially during my favorite chipmunk scene!
Crazy/Funny Thing I Have Done: I love to watch my DVD.  One day that is literally all I did.  I rotated between lounging in front of the screen and on Mommy and Daddy's bed.

Least Favorite Thing: When Horatio doesn't listen to my "No" and when I get too many pets on my bottom.
Bad Habit: Sassiness.  I like to fulfill my girl stereotype.  A lot of the times I will be sassy with Mommy or Daddy when I don't want them doing something.  Strangely though, I mostly purr even when being sassy.  Oh, well, I'm a girl - I'm not supposed to make sense.  Just love me.
Quirks: I have a very loud purr box.  And I'm always a lady... (see picture below)
Mommy Only Fav: Playing chase and hide and go seek throughout the house.
Daddy Only Fav: Greeting him and telling him all about my day when he returns from work.

History of me pre-forever home (Mommy's story): Sydney was sent to the city pound and was on death row (yes, even as a tiny kitten).  An animal rescuer was at the pound one day picking up 3 cats she had scheduled to pick up.  On her way out a city pound employee ran out with three kittens and asked her to please take them, too.  The animal rescuer couldn't say no - especially since they were in front of her!  Then she got in her car and before she could pull away, another city pound employee ran out with a black and white tuxedo kitten and said, "Please take her.  She is not going to survive here."  So she took her.  That black and white tuxedo kitten is now MY baby and I am so very very happy to have her barely escape death so she could be with me forever!

This is what Sydney looked like when we adopted her (December 2011).

How I became a part of the family (Through Mommy's eyes):  In December of 2011, I was in Petsmart looking for a Kong toy: a Wubba.  They didn't have any so I decided to just browse the store and window shop.  I walked over to the cat adoption center and saw two super cute black and white kittens.  I was immediately drawn to her (Marnie at the time) but I thought I wanted a boy (the other kitten was a boy) so I wanted to look at them both and get a feel for how they responded to me.  The moment I held her and snuggled her little neck, I just knew she and I were meant to be!  She was (and still is) so stinkin' cute!  So I called the lady who was on her card to see if I could adopt her.  After speaking with the lady for a little bit, I realized she already had 4 other applications in to adopt her!  I was slightly sad to hear that but I knew Boston would be happy if I didn't break his 'baby' status.  So I told the lady on the phone, "Wow!  Well, I'm sure she'll find a great home then.  I can just back out on the application then."  "No, no.  Wait," the lady said.  After a good conversation on the phone, I hung up and didn't expect to hear back for a couple of days whether or not my application for her adoption was accepted (as per what I was told).  But only a couple of hours later, I got a call asking if I wanted to adopt her. "Yes!" was my answer.  I was told, "if you want to, you could come pick her up now."  "I'll be there in 10 minutes!" I said.  I was SO excited!  I did my best to not speed...too much.  So that is how Sydney become our Sydney!

Reader's Digest version that I tell others: I went into Petsmart to buy a Wubba.  They didn't have any, so I got a kitten instead.

Sydney Purring when she was little.  Her 'big girl' purr with her little body.  So cute.

Sydney trying to get a lizard through the window.

Sydney bathing Augusta (her favorite kitten).
